Holby City fans watched the heartbreaking moment as Sacha Levy (Bob Barrett) discovered his colleague Raf’s bloodstained lifeless body in a hospital elevator.

The gunman, who was suffering from mental illness, was shot dead at the end of the dramatic episode.

Of his exit, Joe told The Radio Times: ‘It was brilliantly dramatic, which is what you want as an actor. You want people to sit up and take notice.

‘The guys at Holby City told me that they only kill the characters that viewers really like so it is a compliment that Raf gets this exit.’

Joe, who has his eyes set on the Strictly’s Glitter Ball trophy, confessed the last scene was filmed a couple of months back.

But the hunk was sworn to secrecy to ensure his character’s death was unexpected to keep viewers hooked at home.

Therefore the star has admitted he hasn’t had to juggle his filming schedule with polishing off his dance moves each week.

‘We filmed the last scenes a couple of months back,’ he told The Mirror.

‘It has been hard, especially because I’ve been doing lots of interviews, so I hope they don’t I’ve been dishonest but I wasn’t allowed to talk about it because they didn’t want to lessen the impact.’

The Scottish hunk has been playing the role for almost four years after he was picked for the role back in January 2014.

But the actor made the decision to leave the BBC medical drama because he wants to return to his theatre roots after perfecting his dance moves on Strictly.

In 2009, the BBC star worked with the National Theatre of Scotland and toured with the play Haunting Julia.

‘Holby’s a great show to be part of but I really miss being on stage live, I really want to be up there, getting that buzz,’ he explained.

On Saturday night’s live show, the Holby City hunk danced the Samba to Money Money from Cabaret for Musicals-themed week 11 of the competition.

The couple charmed judges with their performance and scored an impressive 37 points for their efforts.
