Three-time Grammy winner, Tom Petty (66) and his band the Heartbreakers were rushed to the local hospital after he was found unconscious and not breathing at his home in Malibu on Sunday.
The “Free Falling” singer passed away after was reportedly taken off of life support after having no brain activity.
Petty’s longtime manager confirmed his death in a statement to the public.
“On behalf of the Tom Petty family we are devastated to announce the untimely death of our father, husband, brother, leader, and friend Tom Petty.”
“He suffered cardiac arrest at his home in Malibu in the early hours of this morning and was taken to UCLA Medical Center but could not be revived. He died peacefully at 8:40 pm PT surrounded by family, his bandmates, and friends,” the statement read.
During his long and storied career, Petty released 13 studio albums and was recently honored as the 2017 Music Cares Person of the Year.
Mr. Petty is survived by his wife Dana York that he married in 2001, and two daughters, Adria Petty and Kimberly Violette Petty.
